What is fascia?
The fascia is a tough connective tissue which runs through the entire body without interruption. Trauma, poor posture or inflammation can create a binding down of the fascia causing excessive pressure on nerves. Standard tests, x-rays, myelograms and CAT scans do not show fascial restrictions.

What should I expect in a session?
A myofascial therapist will scan the whole body for restrictions and assess for postural dysfunction. After examination of skin and tissue integrity the skilled hands of the therapist will apply light to moderate timed pressure into the fascia and wait for a release. ( this is not a massage) The therapist will repeat this timed pressure into various areas of fascia until each restriction has released enabling muscles to stretch and elongate promoting a lasting affect.

What is the difference between myofascial release and other massage techniques?
John Barnes myofascial release technique is not a massage. Massage and other therapies mechanically attempt to break up the cross links that can form in the fibrous network. Unfortunately, this only partially releases fascial restrictions with only temporary results. With John Barnes MFR technique light to moderate pressure into the tissue until a release is felt will break through the solidified barriers producing long lasting results.  The client is also taught to treat themselves with a home exercise program for continued carryover.

How many sessions do I need to get results?
Most muscular-skeletal conditions can be treated with lasting results with as few as 3-5 sessions consecutively. It is highly recommended to practice a customized cardio and strengthening program  and self treatment for optimum health. If life long trauma both physically and emotionally are present, longer fascia therapy is advised. Pain in the body is both an emotional, spiritual and physical connection. This is an individual journey of identifying the pain and looking elsewhere for the cause. Remember you’re issues are in the tissue.

What to Wear
Bathing suit or sports bra, lose shorts or t-shirt. Myofascial Release is done with contact to the skin so the therapist needs easy access to the body for optimum benefits. Avoid oils or creams prior to your session. Remove jewerly. Avoid a meal just before your session. If necessary a light snack is recommended.

***Put cell phones on silent.
***Hydration is advised immediately after treatment.
